Welcome to the first official Ride Solar blog post—a new space where we’ll share stories, inspiration, and behind-the-scenes insights from our journey. While Ride Solar has been creating unforgettable solar-powered experiences for a few years now, this blog marks the start of a new chapter—one where we take you deeper into the heart of what we do and why it matters.
A Vessel with a Past
At the center of Ride Solar’s story is a remarkable piece of Canadian history: a Heritage Vessel built for Expo ‘67 in Montreal. Once a proud symbol of mid-century innovation, this boat has been carefully restored and transformed into the Isola Solaretto—North America’s largest solar-powered boat and the world’s first solar-powered dinner cruise.
More than just a technical feat, this transformation is a tribute to what’s possible when we preserve the past while building a better, greener future. Up to 34 guests can now dine, relax, and celebrate on a vessel that once wowed the world in 1967—and still turns heads today, gliding quietly through Charlottetown Harbour under the power of the sun.
Solar-Powered Fun on Land and Water
Beyond the water, Ride Solar continues to innovate with the world’s first solar-powered “party bikes”. These 14 passenger, mobile experiences blend entertainment and sustainability—whether you’re on a guided tour, a pub crawl, or a special group event. Equipped with solar panels, electric-assist motors, and a great sound system, our solar party bikes in Charlottetown & Halifax bring the party to the streets in a clean, quiet, and totally fun way. Our Charlottetown party bike is even licensed for cold drinks right on board!
Whether you’re cruising through the harbour or pedalling the waterfront with friends, Ride Solar delivers good, clean fun—experiences designed to bring people together while treading lightly on the planet.
Local Flavor, Lasting Impact
Every Ride Solar adventure is infused with local flavour & drinks. Our dinner cruises feature fresh, Island-sourced meals prepared in a licensed onboard kitchen and often include live performances from local musicians and entertainers. It’s a full sensory experience: sights, sounds, tastes—and zero emissions.
We’re proud to be part of a movement that blends heritage, technology, and sustainability. It’s not just about where we take you. It’s about how we get there, and the story we tell along the way.
Tourism Refined
We often use this term when referring to our experiences because we think that you deserve more than being jammed into a noisy, smelly, diesel-powered vehicle, all facing forward, unable to socialize, eat or drink.
That’s why all Ride Solar excursions have comfortable social seating around tables where you can chat, enjoy food & drinks, charge your devices, go to the bathroom during the trip & get up & walk around. Steer the boat? Stop for photo ops? Cheers with your bestie? Have a conversation around some great Maritime food? All of this is possible on our eco-tours powered by the sun.
What’s Next
This blog will be a place to share stories from the water and the road—spotlights on our team, our guests, partners and the local communities we’re proud to be part of. We’ll also offer tips on planning your experience, news on upcoming events and deep dives into the solar technology that powers it all.
Thanks for riding with us.
